6 Days to Christmas Eve Giveaway.

Hi there!
Thanks for popping in today!
Can you feel the excitement rising over Barb and Dave’s house?
I got up at stupid o’clock today
to try and clear as much work as possible,
so I won’t have to do too much while Grace and Mark are here.
They land Monday!
I’m telling you, I cannot wait.
I cannot blimming wait to see those two kids.
America is way too far away. And so vast!!!
The last time they saw each other was at Mark’s graduation,
and that was one and a half years ago!

Did I show you the new little addition we got whilst in France,
to join Gracie in the garden?

Yes, I know I’m a soppy sod,
but they sit right outside the back door together.

Anyway, enough of that.
Let’s see which card I want to give away today!

How about an old favourite...

This is done with acrylic paint and a Gelli Plate.
I must have done this one over 100 times at the NEC once.
No sooner had I finished it than somebody said,
“How did you start it? I missed the beginning.”

So how did I start it?
Acrylic paint on the small Gelli Plate
and patted with a screwed up piece of copy paper.

If you pull the print straight away, you get this:
Nice background!

However,  if you want this texture behind the bricks
but not in the middle, (see below)
then use the copy paper to dab off most of the paint in the centre,
and leave the taupe coloured paint on the Gelli Plate to dry.

When the paint has dried on the Gelli Plate,
roll a layer of brown acrylic on top of the taupe all over,
place the brick stencil on top and blot through the stencil
with clean copy paper.
Lift the stencil,
place a little piece of card where you want the aperture on the wet bricky pattern.

Now place your white 7" x 7" card on top and rub the back,
to transfer the paint to the card.
Peel print off.
Bingo.

I have a stash!

The landscape next.
One of the best ever.

Archical Watering Can. Grey. Great colour ink.

Let’s add a little drop shadow on the picket fence and on the cat...

This is our cat, Romeo.
over 18 years old.

Every time Grace and Mark leave, there are tears.
They get emotional because they think they will never see
Romeo again.
And I guess 18 years is a long time in a young person’s life.

Haha! The old boy’s still here and going strong.
In fact, I think he’s never been better!

So.
If you would like this picture of our cat Romeo on Acrylic,
looking longingly up at his lunch,
then leave a pleasant comment below,
and greatly increase the chance of getting picked out of the hat!
You’ve got to be in it to win it!

Lots of love and hugs,

  4. Another great blog - Barbara Gray keeps the doctor away!! Tried a bit of die cutting today. Obviously too soon after my op and boy did I make a mess. So I found my Clarity lacey butterfly and played and fluttered with that - much cleaner, much more creative and feel much better.
Thank you to barbara and all the bloggers

  10. Another lovely card. It reminds me of my cat Charlie waiting for his dinner. Actually he would probably be on the bird table waiting he is really naughty. Love to win this it would look lovely on the wall of my garden room. If not I think I might have to try this out with the colours you used. Hope you get all your chores done before your kids arrive.

  12. I can't see both my children on Christmas Day, but we can all get together a few days later. Shift work often does get in the way and weather too. One year, we had to wait till April because weather and sickness got in the way till then, but we made the most of it then. I am lucky in having such a supportive family and will not be alone over the holiday. I just hope that all those who have had bad times this year can be together with loved ones. I know you will have a wonderful time with all your family together, Barbara. Love Maggie xxx

  13. Another beautiful card Barbara. We had our girl 'Billy' until she was 22 years old so hopefully Romeo has plenty more Christmas dinners to look forward to. For Billy the sound of tin foil would always bring her running to our kitchen. Never mind wing, leg or breast - it had to be crispy skin every time! Boy do we miss her. Your excitement is palpable & infectious! Only 3 sleeps left now.xxx

  21. I know the feeling. My brother came over from Canada last year for my parent's Golden Wedding. It was a complete surprise. We Skype regularly, but I hadn't seen him in the flesh for 12 years. Result - me a blubbering mess and Mum most bemused at my reaction. I love this stamp set - I used it for my first attempt at a canvas for the Clarity bingo challenge earlier this year.

We have done this every year since, nearly 20. It works very well. We are all together but all four children and families are free to do whatever they wish on the 25/26th.

    3. We tried to do this Rosalind but my daughter is a doctor and you probably realise this became impossible with work! We will see her on boxing day but my son is off to his Girlfriends parents in Wales so they will miss each other. The other issue is that my daughter's MIL has a birthday on 22nd which means that weekend is taken up with her celebrations! Never mind I know it's life and they have their own to live. We had a celebration in November at Centre Parcs recently which I counted as our Christmas!

  26. Hi Barb,
I've always loved this card since I first saw you demo it. It reminds me of our first cat that we got when we got married - she was just a tiny kitten when some of the kids at school found her wandering the streets and brought her to me. Dave and I had only been married for a week and he was adamant that we weren't keeping her but I won. Unfortunately we had a staff meeting that evening so I put the kitten in a box lid with a towel for her to lie on and sneaked into the staff meeting. Things were going really well until half way through the meeting , in a very serious part, the kitten had obviously had enough and was probably hungry as well, and she jumped out of the box and started walking down the long meeting table, mewing ! The head just looked at Dave and I and said" Well I wasn't expecting you to have a family quite as early!" It turned out to be the most entertaining staff meeting ever!! Anyway, she used to sit and look up at the bird table just like Romeo on the card. I'm so pleased that Grace and Mark are joining you for Christmas and the new statue is fabulous too. Love Alison xxxx

  39. Hi Barbara, can't tell you how many times I have watched the video of this card. Just love it and hope to give it a try sometime soon. Love the statues. Funny how we get so sentimental over things. I have a picture of two little angels, one girl and one boy, which hangs in my home as a reminder of my two little angels. So glad to hear you will have your children with you at Christmas time this year. Just know it will be so special for you all. Family over the holidays is so important. My Gray Day order will be arriving on Monday, can hardly wait. Just in time for Christmas. Please thank everyone at Clarity Towers for all their hard work in getting the massive amount of orders out in record time. Have a wonderful weekend preparing for Grace and Mark's arrival.

It will be so lovely for you to have your family home for Christmas. We can but dream...but even the dream is wonderful!

  58. Really must give the gelli plate a try in the New Year.

  59. I started my gelli plate experiments with this stencil but haven't used it for ages. I must have another go. The cat could be our Smartie who is curled up beside me. Not Truffle who is behind my head as she is so fluffy that she could never show as sleek a silhouette as this. I love these colours and so nice to see this again. End of term today. Woo hoo! Now I can start planning for Christmas!

  60. I just love the artwork and now that I've got the hang of my gelli plate and have the brick stencil and stamp set I might be able to have a go at reproducing it. I have 2 daughters, the oldest is 17 and becoming more independent by the day, I have a feeling that she may not be at home for Christmas next year - boo. My youngest will be 15 on the 27th which means another family gathering - yeah.

  63. Im another person who has a Gelli Plate in almost untouched condition!! Your sample here must be inspiring so many of us to have another go at producing a unique background and frame for out composition. We are 'home alone' for Christmas - Daughter and tiny twins (doing very well, thanks for asking!! now each over 3kg) are in Milan and son and two boys are with his partner's family in Slovakia - so its just us and the cat!! So I might have time to play. I would love this as inspiration!

  81. Good old Romeo! My cat Puska is 15 now, in her youth she was a voracious hunter, those birds would have been in trouble! Now those times are a distant memory for her, but we think she still relives the good old days in her dreams.

We go to my parents on Monday, so they have early Christmas with their granddaughter - likely to be my dad's last unfortunately, so we'll be spoiling him rotten and making memories as much as we can.

Another great gelli technique, must have more of a play with mine! How often do I say that? But would love to win this artwork to inspire me.

  83. What lovely young people and so exciting for you all. Our children and grandchildren are only 140 miles away and it is upsetting when visits come to an end so I can imagine your feelings must be so much more magnified.
Make the most of the time, as I am sure you all will, the blog can take a back seat for a while so they can sit in the front.

  84. Ahhh the old ones are the best. You are right, this is one of the best stamp sets and I love Romeo the cat.
Looking forward to tomorrow as it is our Clarity EM Christmas workshop so I need to get some sleep ready for all that fun xxx

  85. Hi Barbara
I can't explain why, but art created with this lovely stamp set always makes me feel happy. I have been neglecting my stamps lately. This is all due to being in love with Groovi. I am trying to think of ways to combine the two elements. Let's get Christmas over and then I can explore the possibilities. It will soon be Monday and you will have your children home for Christmas.
    Hugs from Chris X

  88. I have wondered about the space in the middle. Got to get the gelli plate out again to play. So glad your kids are home for Christmas. Got to admit it's a strange feeling when my 'girls' (40+ years old women) are home, the house feels warm, cosy and noisy. I love it. When they've gone back 'down south' the house is just like a morgue. This year it's our turn to travel south to stay with them, no cooking magic. Have a great Christmas and as we say in north west wales -Nadolig Llawen.

  90. Hi Barbara
Oooooh you must be so excited, Monday must seem like an age away for you. It seems funny Grace and Mark are too far apart in the same country to see eachother - shows how vast it is. We've had a text from our daughter, she's on the bus, only a few more hours and she will be in London then a train journey home - I'm looking forward to that hug at the train station tomorrow - only 4 months rather than the time you've had Grace and Mark away from you but it's still long enough.
Today's artwork is fab - I'm not a cat lover - have a few cats that come into our garden and look like this, but there are one or two that are quite cute and I can't be too cross with! I think I might have to get that brick wall stencil, it's rather nice isn't it. This would make a lovely picture.
    Night night, sleep tight
    Love Diane xxxxx

We have a 17 yr old mongrel who has been unwell this yr and my daughter seems to have been home (only 2 1/2 hrs) most weekends in fact to nyt my husband was bemoaning the fact - we r so lucky to have both children only 2 1/2 hrs away and close to each other - I can only imagine how hard it must be to have them so far away - something common amongst my friends and wish you much joy as a family this Christmas jxx

I've been invited to my son and daughter-in-law's house to share Christmas dinner with my Granddaughter Cerys. It will be her first Christmas so I feel honoured to share it with them. Love and hugs, Jeanette xxxx

  97. Although I am not really a cat person, i do think that the cat on this card is lovely.
I can fully appreciate your excitement about the kids coming home. My daughter came home from Edinburgh last week. Although I know she is only an hour away at uni, I do miss her when she isn't home.
We had a family outing tonight to go to see Star wars. It was good to go out together as a family again. Appreciating the good times!

  98. Lovely card, I especially like the colours. It is my intent to sit down sometime and make a stash of backgrounds. Well we all have to dream don't we. You must be so excited about seeing Grace and Mark.....I always find it helps to countdown in the 'number of sleeps' until......

  99. So pleased your children are home for Christmas, hope you have a lovely family time
Don't forget to feed Romeo in all the bustle of Christmas - he looks like he is eyeing those birds up for his tea in your artwork LOL. Sad to say my neighbours cat spends most of the day seeking out birds to attack - fortunately though I feed them from the windows of my first floor flat so they are out of his reach most of the time

  101. I have this set and still haven't produced anything I'm satisfied with. Obviously I need the gelli plate which I have avoided so far because I'm scared of it!! My Christmas present is already sorted with your calendar and Christmas wee folk amongst other things so the gelli plate will now be on my birthday list in January! I'm sure you will have a wonderful Christmas with all your family around you. Enjoy x

  103. So excited for you, bet Monday cant come quickly enough. My husband and I were both in the Forces with home towns and families in different parts of the country and getting home to our families was a logistical nightmare, especially after our son was born. Here one year, there another, and having to take our turns on duty over Christmas, we kept a diary year on year to try and avoid upsetting anyone. Love this artwork, the instructions are brilliant, and great to have such a stash of backgrounds to choose from after all your work at the NEC

  104. Ohh I can feel the excitement from here. I bet you will have THE most fabulous Christmas ever. I'm almost as excited as you are! Lol. Another gorgeous piece of artwork - I am definitely going to try this one - me and my gelli plate always have different ideas of how the finished article should look!! Have a lovely day. xxxx

  111. I watched you do this at NEC, was inspired to buy a Gelli plate. In fact you even dashed round the stand gathering everything I needed. Bless you and thank-you. Love this scene and I have managed to re-create (not quite as good). Enjoy your precious time with Mark and Grace. xx

  112. Hello Barb, I love this image and technique, although yours does look better than my attempts. Have a wonderful time with Mark and Grace, you must be so excited. Love the statues outside the door, and I am sure they keep you company. Take care. Bx

  113. My Gray Friday stamps have arrived - yippee!! I always love your stamps because of the thickness and the quality. No one else can match them they are just lovely things in them selves. I am addicted to stamps! They will be treasured in my stamping stash. I am always impressed with how the paint goes down in layers on the Gelli plate then come off in one showing the layers. It is such a cool technique. My son will be coming for Christmas with his new partner. His break up from his last partner has seen him endure a few hard years of heartache but this year he has turned a corner with a new love and she will be spending Christmas Day with us for the first time. It will be great to see him happy again at Christmas. Like my mother always says - "You only have to live through it" and he has and new happier times are here. Time for us all to make new memories and I am sure you will cherish those you make this Christmas with your family around you. Much love Jayne

  117. One of the things I love about Clarity stamps is how we can set so many different scenes with the stamps, and make so many different backgrounds with the stencils. This is another beauty. I love Romeo looking for his lunch... though on this occasion I hope he goes hungry! :) x

  120. Fabulous colours, and this too is one of my favourite sets. I'm sure you're beside yourself waiting to give the kids a hug - whilst your little statues are beautiful, and will always lend you a listening ear, they will never be as wonderful as the real Grace and Mark. Enjoy your time with your family! Susan x

  121. Of all of those that you have shared this is my favourite. It reminds me of when we had cats and a nice garden.
Love the statues too and you aren't a soppy sod either. Your Mark and Grace being over there, well, I'm not surprised you miss them. My mum and brother have moved a couple of hours drive away and because of my health issues I can't drive that distance or be in a car for that long and I don't get to see them much and it hurts like hell so I can relate even though yours are much further away. Give them great big hugs when they come home any time you need it I am sure they understand. I will be doing the same on Boxing Day when they come here, gawd I'm crying just thinking about it! Awesome art Karen x

  128. I recall seeing you demo this at the NEC, Ah happy times. I much prefer birds to cats, as they are much more uplifting creatures ha ha! So I'm glad the old boy won't be having birds on his menu at his advanced age unless he gets a bite of the turkey for his Christmas dinner.
    Happy Days,
